Through the personal radiation monitoring program, a worker employed in radiation work was found in 2011 to have been exposed to an estimated dose of about 100 mSv while conducting work in industrial radiography under improper working conditions. The dose exceeded the 20 mSv annual dose limit specified in the Radiation Ordinance. Detailed medical examination procedures showed that the worker exhibited no observable radiation effect. On prosecution, the employer was fined $5,000 for contravening regulation 14(1)(a) of the Radiation (Control of Irradiating Apparatus) Regulations by permitting the employee to be exposed to radiation exceeding the limit.
